State Level.
The Department is headed by Chief Minister assisted by Cabinet Minister/Advisor and Secretary as AHOD and Director as HOD. The Department looks after the Revenue Administration and Land Records and Survey.


Directorate level activities
a)      Land Revenue Administration:
The Commissioner, Nagaland functions as the ex-Officio Director of Land Revenue and he is assisted by the Deputy Commissioner at Headquarter level and ADC/SDO at Sub-Divisional level and two Revenue Officers in Kohima and Dimapur. The Revenue Administration primarily deals with land Settlement and Collection of Land Revenue.


b)      Directorate of Land Records and Survey and its Branches.
The Director functions as the Head of Land Records and Survey Department. The Additional Director, two Joint Directors and three Deputy Directors assist in carrying out the Departmental Works, Activities and Assignments.
The primary duty of the Directorate is to construct up-date and maintain the Land Records and carry out all Survey works.


c)      District level.
The Land Records and Survey Officers head the District Land Records and Survey Offices in all the Districts. They carry out Departmental works and also assist the District Administration in all Technical matters relating to Settlement and Land Revenue. All Officers of the department undergo training at the Indian Institute of Surveying & Mapping, Survey of India, Hyderabad.


d)      Survey Training Institute.
The Survey Training Institute is an important unit of the Directorate of Land Records and Survey located at Purana Bazar, Dimapur. A Principal in the rank of District Land Records and Survey Officer heads the Institute.
The Institute imparts Comprehensive Training to all in-Service Technical Officers and Staff of the Department and conduct Training on fundamental of Surveying, the importance of Land Records, Settlement, Land Revenue and Map Reading to the I.A.S. and N.C.S. Probationers of the State.

 (e)  Map Production Centre.
The map production Centre attached to the Directorate of Land Records and Survey is the only authorized Machinery of the Government to prepare Maps for Official proposes and uses.
